This project was photographed on a small island in the canals of Xochimilco, Mexico City. Hundreds of dolls are decaying in the landscape. The story is that a young girl drowned and in her memory Don Julian Santana Barrera placed many dolls on Isla de las Muneca.
He died in 2001 and visitors continue to contribute dolls to the island.
These inanimate dolls are more than a creepy mystery. They are symbolic of a memory of a tragic loss to me.
